About Me - Diego Martínez

Hello!

My name is Diego Martínez and I'm a 24 years old man living in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay.

I'm very fond of my programming skills, but I'm rather short on what I offered to the community.

My Life

I started playing around with programming languages back in '95 (at age 8) when my parents bought me my first computer (almost...): a Nikita PC-Kid. It was actually just a bit more than a NES bundled with a Keyboard, with a small (4K) backup RAM powered by rechargeable batteries. It was the latest of the latest for the cheap market, without resorting to the expensive real computers.

It came bundled with built-in games (actually an internal NES cartridge), with a lot of software, among which were a Word-esque word processor, an Excel-esque spreadsheet application, and several educational software applications, such as Learn To Type.

One of the apps caught my eye: G-BASIC. Also called Game Basic by the computer's manual, it was a variation of the BASIC programming language targeted at creating small games. I started tinkering with the demo programs, and finally got around at making my very first own game (well... almost). It was a small Donkey-Kong-like game.

My two sisters had a Sinclair ZX-Spectrum+ until a few years before, and I came across the manual for it. I started trying to port some of the programs with varying degrees of success, and that also helped me to know how different hardware worked.

The computer sadly died a few years after (don't remember when), and I stood away from programming until I finally got the opportunity to enter college at the age of 14, in the Informatic Mainteinance and Processing course.

At college, I began to learn programming in C, which to me had many resemblances to BASIC, which I was accustomed to. I also started learning the Fu...ine art that is repairing a computer. My understanding of language constructs, and how led me to have very high grades in the topics of Programming, and to some extent in Logic and Mainteinance Workshop.

During my three years of college, I learned a great deal of knowledge about programming for actual PCs, and learned to code in several languages in the process, including C, a bit of C++, and Java.

When I finished college, I took another course on Consumer Service, Accounting and Marketing.

Later on I learned writing HTML, CSS, among other things.

So here I am now. Boring you to death with a looooongish bio about the self-proclaimed god I am.
